The clean up was not destroyed. The purpose of the clean up was to make sure the park was safe for children during the egg hunt and to build community among clean up participants. The actual trash and leaf pic up is coincidental to these efforts. People are people; some of us clean up and build community others don't. If we focus on the "disrespectful" people we accomplish nothing. In fact it gives us a great excuse to do nothing. A good time was had by all who participated in the clean up and the Easter Egg Hunt; we will not stop. Check out all the fun that was had and sense of community built in the photo section of www.ChathamSquare.ning.com.
If it was in other parts of The City Of New Haven, CT...
IE: Behind Christopher Martin on State Street, after that pathetic incident it would be addressed accordingly. The Community bond that is needed to keep Fair Haven up & on they move to a more sustainable place to reside & call home like the "more desirable parts of town" just will not "ever" be.
The end result if you look on Real Estate MLS 115 Multi Family Homes are on the market & about 112 Single Family dwelling as well, & this is city wide, I wonder why? Finally Home values have plumment due to many factors, & of all these propertys for Sale they have had on market for 6 months or longer, & when finally sold, if they sell, are sold for nothing near asking prices one just sold for less than half of asking, & all these "Quality Of Life" matters have a bearing on wether to buy in this city or not, to most people.
After residing here for over twenty years, & seeing all the progress, I now see it crumbling before my eyes, due to the way in which its managed & how our "civilazation" has become, is extremely disturbing.
I really understand, why most leave city living from all over this nation, & go to suburbs, or non-city life style, after living it for decades. For the increased taxes we pay & lack of any type of return, in terms of anything. One really needs to sitdown & evaulate wether its really worth remaining here.
Its really a lost cause, I hate to say, & gets very, very old, when others just don't care.
From continual Dirt Bikes driving on City Streets ( FOR YEARS! mind you) & creating unneeded noise, to Stolen Cars, & unnecessary shootings, & accidents with Residents Residential Property being damaged by automobiles, to uninsured drivers from other parts of the world contributing to this epidemic etc...etc...
& just think what Sunday Liquor Sales are going to do for New Haven Neighborhoods...
